I really enjoyed this short post over at Femina, about the extravagance of God. What better time than at Christmas to mimic His generosity and abundance as we stuff stockings? As we reject the materialism and consumerism of the season, let’s not forget that our Creator has lavished wonders and blessings on us! He gives us more than just what we need… He gives us things to play with, to gawk at, to marvel over, to make us laugh– things to mystify us and awe us and surprise us. He is the Ultimate Gift Giver. There is no shame or guilt in modeling ourselves after Him, as we stuff those stockings full of silly putty or paddle balls or diamond rings or toe socks.
However big or small our budgets, mirthful giving should be the hallmark of Christians at Christmas, don’t ya think?

i was struggling with whether or not to “waste” money on a guft for my 4 month old this year. things are tight, he won’t know, etc… ran through my head. UNTIL i read the reckless giving post on Femina. baby boy will be getting not only a gift from his parents, but a stocking chock full of goodies as well!

I love this, too… and it truly doesn’t matter if the gift is costly or free for the taking… or whether it’s brand spanking new from the store or a treasure that’s dear to your heart and been sitting on your bedside table or a shelf in the living room for 20 years… it’s the loving and giving that brings the joy…
